From Play To Words
Empowering communication through play, connection & expertise
Occupational therapy at From Play to Words supports children in building the skills they need to participate meaningfully in everyday life—at home, at school, and in the community. Our OTs use play-based, relationship-centred approaches to support regulation, sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, self-care, activities of daily living (e.g. toileting, dressing) and independence. Caregivers are active partners in therapy, gaining practical strategies that fit naturally into daily routines and support long-term growth.

Sensory
We help children better understand their body signals, such as hunger, tiredness, emotions, and the need for movement or calm. Support focuses on regulation and comfort so children can participate more easily in daily routines. Caregivers learn practical strategies to support regulation throughout the day.
Toileting
We support children in developing toileting skills in a respectful, pressure-free way. Therapy focuses on readiness, routines, and reducing stress or avoidance around the bathroom. Caregivers are coached on strategies that fit naturally into home routines.
Dressing
We help children build the skills and confidence needed to dress themselves more independently. Support may include motor skills, sensory comfort, and step-by-step routines. Caregivers receive strategies to make dressing easier and less stressful.
Feeding / Picky Eaters
We support children who find eating challenging due to sensory sensitivities, routines, or limited food variety. Therapy focuses on positive, low-pressure mealtime experiences and gradual food exploration. Caregivers are guided on how to support progress at home without increasing stress.
Fine Motor Skills
We help children develop the hand skills needed for play, drawing, writing, and self-care tasks. Therapy builds strength, coordination, and confidence through fun, play-based activities. Caregivers learn simple ways to support fine motor development at home.
Gross Motor Skills / DMI
We support children in building strength, coordination, balance, and overall movement confidence. Sessions may include play-based activities and Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) when appropriate. Caregivers are coached on ways to support movement goals during everyday play and routines.
Sleep
We support children and families with sleep routines, settling, and night-time challenges in a gentle, responsive way. Support focuses on understanding your child’s unique needs, building predictable routines, and reducing stress around sleep. Caregivers are coached with practical strategies that fit their family values and daily life.
